Founded in 2012, Sender (or sender net) email marketing platform serves 125k businesses, making it a comparatively smaller, newer email marketing platform, compared to some of the more well-known mailing tools.

However, don’t be fooled by their smaller client base Sender has managed to clinch high profile customers such as Deloitte, HP, Disney and more, thanks to its near enough unbeatable pricing, attractive newsletter templates and impressive email automation possibilities.

It's easy to use and surprisingly affordable. Everything you need for effective email marketing in any size of business for a fraction of the cost of other email marketing providers, such as MailChimp.

How Sender works

Once you’ve chosen a suitable plan, you’ll be able to access your dashboard. In the top right corner, you’ll see a button labelled ‘new campaign’, which you can use to create an email campaign – you can also find this button when you navigate to the campaign tab shown on the navigation bar on the left side of your dashboard.

After clicking ‘new campaign’ you can input the name of your campaign, your email subject, and from the name. This is also where you decide which editor you want to use to design your email, whether you prefer a drag and drop builder, plain text or custom HTML editor.

After pressing ‘save and continue’ you’ll be presented with an array of email templates to choose from – or you can choose to start from scratch.

Email design

Sender’s drag and drop builder is simple and intuitive, with content features presented under the ‘elements’ tab on the left of the builder. These ‘elements’ include headlines, paragraphs, images, buttons, socials, videos and even product blocks, which can be customised with the ‘customise’ tab shown in the right of the builder.

Displayed at the top of the builder are the options to undo actions, preview your email, or send a test email. The ‘save and continue button is also located here when you’ve decided you’re happy with your email and want to move on to the next stage.

After pressing ‘save and continue’ displayed in the top right, you’ll be taken to a page where you can choose which of your subscribers to send the email to. You can choose one of your saved segments or subscriber groups, or you can choose to send the email to all your active subscribers. You also have the option to exclude specific recipients if you need to.

After this, all that’s left to do is to confirm and send.

‍Automation features

If you want to create an autoresponder, the Automation tab can be found near the campaign tab on the left side of your dashboard, as a component on the navigation bar.

On the automation page, you can click a button displayed in the top right of the screen labelled ‘create new workflow’, where you’ll be asked to name your automation. When that’s done, you can click ‘create’ and choose what kind of autoresponder/automation you want.

You’ll be presented with a number of automated email types, such as emails triggered by a specific date. Or, emails triggered by actions, such as if a subscriber joins your mailing list, if a link is clicked, or a shopping cart abandoned.

Once you’ve selected the type of automation most suited to your needs, you’ll be taken to a page where you can manage your trigger setup on the right, including choosing the group of subscribers you want to receive the email. 

In the centre of the page, you can add steps to your automation – you can add a time delay, or add a condition to the automation – as well as choose/design the email you want to send in response to the automation’s trigger.

Then, you can go through the usual steps to create your email with the drag and drop builder until you’re happy. Then, you can activate your automation.

Many steps can be added to your workflow on Sender to make your autoresponder respond flawlessly to the relevant triggers. You can also add multiple emails to the workflow so that you can send the perfect email to your subscribers based on their unique situation and what conditions they meet.

When your emails have been sent…

Sender has a number of devices in place to ensure that their deliverability is high, boasting a high IP and domain reputation. 

For one, Sender has a feedback loop system that works with major email service providers such as Outlook, Yahoo and AOL to ensure that the platform is notified when someone marks an email as spam. This helps Sender to take steps to prevent this from happening in the future.

Moreover, Sender provides the option for businesses to have a dedicated IP address – which they recommend for larger businesses sending over 500k emails a month – to isolate their sending reputation and ensure the highest possible deliverability for their emails. Sender tracks bounced emails, analysing rejected and returned emails and automatically clearing non-existent emails from their users’ subscriber lists.

When your emails have been sent and you’re looking to see how your campaigns are doing, Sender has an extensive range of analytics to help you track your results. 

In addition to open and track clicking – and a click map, showing which links and buttons garnered the most clicks – Sender grants its users access to subscriber profiles, showing their opens, clicks, times, most frequently clicked items and so on. 

More than this, Sender provides data and time analysis, showing you the times that your emails were opened most frequently. So, you can optimise your send time accordingly, allowing your business to be at the top of your recipients’ inboxes, at the time they’re most likely to look at their email.

And, if you use Google Analytics on your site, Sender’s Google Analytics integration allows you to see your newsletters’ and emails’ effect on traffic. You can also integrate with WordPress, WooCommerce and more through Sender to fully assimilate your marketing strategy.

In contrast to many other email marketing platforms, Sender provides all this data to every one of their users – including those using the free plan.

As well as offering an incredibly generous free plan to its users, Sender email marketing software offers some of the most inexpensive paid plans available, making it a top choice for businesses on a budget who want to use email marketing as part of their business strategy.

As part of Sender’s free plan, users are able to send up to 15k emails a month, which they can send to a potential 2500 subscribers – one of the largest contact bases accommodated for by a free plan of any email marketing platform.

What’s more, all of Sender’s features are included in this price. This includes smart email automation, dedicated customer support, a wide range of templates to choose from and access to advanced analytics.

No features are exclusive to the paid plans only, so Sender’s free users don’t miss out – the only difference between the free and paid plans are the number of subscribers you’re able to send emails to, and the number of emails that you’re able to send in total.


In the case of all the paid plans, Sender allows its customers to send 12 times the number of emails as the number of subscribers paid for.

As Sender’s most inexpensive paid plan, you are able to send a total of 60k emails per month to a maximum of 5000 subscribers, and the price of these plans steadily increases according to the number of subscribers you have.

If you have a greater subscriber base, plans for 50k contacts and up to 600k emails per month costs £85 monthly, while up to 200k subscribers and 2.4 million emails a month – the highest subscriber number catered to by Sender.

There are some top features in the pipeline for Sender that you might look forward to. Amongst them are landing page creation, SMS marketing features, and the ability to send push notifications.

Sender offers an incredibly generous free forever plan which we love with all features included, and you can send up to 15,000 emails per month to a generous 2,500 subscribers.

It’s really easy for new users to pick up, if you just need a simple email marketing platform, Sender does the job. You can include videos, product links, custom timers, review surveys, and you can even insert custom HTML.

Why Sender is not so good

A bit disappointingly many of Sender’s features are pretty basic. This makes them easy to use, but more advanced users may struggle to fulfil their potential.

Another drawback is that A/B testing isn't yet available (or in the pipeline!)  While Sender is a great tool for e-commerce site owners it misses Shopify and BigCommerce - which is a shame. 

Sender verdict?

As an email marketing platform, Sender provides good value for money, with one of the most generous, comprehensive free plans and some of the most inexpensive paid plans to its users.

Though Sender’s video tutorials aren’t as comprehensive as some of its competitors, it makes up for this with a logical, easy-to-use interface and an intuitive automation workflow builder that anyone could get to grips with to create even a seemingly complex autoresponder.

The drag and drop email builder is easy to use, even if it doesn’t provide the largest selection of content blocks (though it does have product blocks and blocks for socials, which isn’t ubiquitous among email marketing platforms). 

This makes it a great choice for businesses that don’t need too many frills, yet still, but demand an attractive email design.

Overall, Sender is an impressive email marketing platform for businesses that want to make the most out of email marketing, while keeping to a small budget. Sender has pretty much everything a small to medium business could want, as long as they don’t need to send emails to more than 200k subscribers.
